Contact Staff - Fishtails Instructor: April Jennifer Choi
Fishtails are deceptive because what seems so simple has caused difficulty for many people trying to learn, but they really are simple once you know how they work. Here we will take several different approaches to learning how to fishtail a staff to insure that you will be able to fishtail. Later we will add variation to lead you into a world of endless transitions between contact moves without having to grip the staff.
Fishtails are single beat spins done using a wrist lock consisting of transitioning between stall points in a vertical plane by continuously pumping a staff. 1) 1 Beat Spin - performing a 1 beat spin on the back of your wrist 2) Wrist Locks - using lock points to control the direction of your staff 3) Stalling - understand the transition between zero-g points 4) Plane Control - moving the staff relative to your body in the vertical plane 5) Pumping - continuously pumping a staff at the perfect rate
